Last week, I was able to sneak into the Greenmantle yearly conference in Mexico City. There was a great speaker lineup and got the opportunity to hear Phil Libin at the Technology focused panel. I did not know Phil before that day but he made a couple of statements that peaked my interest:
The first was that long technology trends are identified with “buzz words”. First it was the “PC”, then it was “dot com” and finally “mobile”. After these trends grow, they become norm as almost every company adopts their strategy. No company today describes itself as a “dot-com” company.
Made sense to me…
Today he believes that “AI” is the current buzz word that will become the norm in 10 Years and this is why he founded all-turtles.
The second point was that he has heard 120 business ideas focused on blockchain during the last year, but none of those actually require blockchain to be built. Maybe this is the buzz word that becomes norm in the future but more on this topic for another post.
His point on AI was quite interesting to me because it came the same week that MIT announced a 1Bn USD investment in a new college focused on AI and backed by Blackstone founder, Steve Schwarzman.
Both of these made me revisit this video from Benedict Evans on the future in 10 years where he explains that we are currently in the rocket fuel phase in Machine Learning.
I want to set aside some time these next few months to understand better the applications of machine learning to Reservamos and future business models to come. Also look at leading companies investing in the space and their growth prospects.
The signs were just too obvious this week to ignore.
