Today, Novak Djokovic was crowned the Mens Wimbledon Champion for the 5th time. He now has 16 total grand slams.
I remember growing up and watching Pete Sampras (14 GS titles) and Andre Agassi (8 GS titles) and thinking that it was the greatest rivalry ever. I was dead wrong.
What we have seen in the past decade in tennis is out of this world. There is Rodger Federer, with his 20 Grand Slams and still rocking all tournaments at his 37 years of age. You also have Rafa Nadal, undisputed GOAT in clay, with 18 Grand Slams.
The table below just shows the sheer domination that this three-way rivalry has endured to the game. The next generation has their work cut out for them!
The level of tennis we saw this Friday and Today have been constant throughout the decade. Impecable! However, today´s game was an opportunity for Roger step out with a bang in England. He was so close!
Federer has pushed both Nadal and Nole to step up their game all their lives. More than that, he has inspired them to keep going at it for longer... this is why I truly believe we still have some amazing years of tennis in front of us. My prediction is that both Rafa and Nole will go on to win more slams than Roger in their careers, but they could not have done it without him.
This rivalry amongst the three is really the GOAT.
